Asda, one of the leading supermarkets in the UK, has recently made a significant addition to its executive leadership team. Matt Heslop, who has over 20 years of experience at Lidl where he currently serves as chief operating officer, will now be leading Asda’s stores and depots operation.
In his new role, Heslop will be overseeing the 470 convenience stores in Asda’s newly established Asda Express division. This move is part of Asda’s strategic plan to drive the next stage of its growth journey.
Mohsin Issa, Asda’s co-owner, expressed his delight at Heslop’s appointment, praising him as an experienced operator with a proven track record in managing substantial retail operations in a fast-growing company.
In addition to Heslop’s appointment, Asda will also welcome Matt Kelleher as its chief digital officer in July. Kelleher will be responsible for overseeing the supermarket’s ecommerce, data, and technology functions.
On a related note, Simon Gregg, senior vice president ecommerce and retail south, will be stepping down from his role at Asda in July.
These appointments and changes in leadership reflect Asda’s commitment to driving innovation and growth in the competitive food and drink market in the UK.
