Is It Possible to Combine Flexible and Standard Solar Panels?

March 30, 2024 | by The Jeuns

Flexible solar panels, as the name suggests, are thinner and lighter than standard solar panels. Some flexible panels are so thin that they can be compared to stickers. Due to their slim design, flexible solar panels are more cost-effective to produce and install compared to traditional panels. Additionally, their flexibility makes them easy to move from one location to another, making them ideal for applications such as RVs and boats.

However, one downside of flexible solar panels is their limited power output when compared to standard panels. This makes them less suitable for powering a home, as their lower efficiency requires a larger area covered by panels to generate the same amount of power. While it is possible to combine both types of panels in a single installation, the decision to do so will depend on the efficiency needed for the specific application.

Choosing between flexible and standard solar panels will ultimately depend on the intended use. For a more permanent solution to offset home power costs, traditional panels may be more suitable. On the other hand, if mobility and a sleek design are priorities, flexible panels could be the better choice. Ultimately, the decision should be based on the specific requirements of the project at hand.
